ROUND 1:    SCHOOL / CLUB CHALLENGE or ONE DAY TOURNAMENT
In the Spring Term (or Autumn Term if a school really wishes), a 7 round competition is played.  This may be a one day (if a tournament) or more likely with 1 round per week over 7 weeks in a school (or outside school) club.  Players are paired on a Swiss system basis in each round, but do not worry if you don't know how to run this as we provide enough information for you to run such an event and can even recommend a cheap but effective computer pairing program that you can use for both Swiss and All-Play-All events whenever you wish.

At the end of the event, the highest scoring 30% (minimum) of boys and girls from each year group qualify for the semi-finals (which are held in June each year).   In addition, any other pupil scoring 15 points or more out of 21 qualifies.  Where players are tied, they both/all qualify.  In this event, 3 points are awarded for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 for a defeat.

Those running qualification rounds (Round 1) will be obliged to send CCF a final cross-table of the event by the end of April (the computer program can produce this easily).  CCF will aim to process the results and issue invitations to enter the semi-finals by the and of April.  This will be done direct to those we already have contact information for (by email where possible) or via their school/club/tournament organiser if not.  All names will be listed on the web site and entry status tracked accordingly.

ROUND 2:     SEMI-FINALS
(Please see CCF Conditions of Entry)

There will be 3 semi-final events for those of Primary School age (secondary school aged players go straight into the finals).  Players can choose which event they enter with no restriction - other than that they can only play in one of them (one you have started your first game in one of the events, another semi-final is not allowed!):
